At the end of the day, the new oak floor is in the kitchen. The original floor was maple, which a previous owner covered with linoleum, probably in the 50s, and then the woman we bought the house from covered the linoleum with pergo, sometime in the 90s. We took off the pergo and linoleum a few years ago, but the maple was in bad shape. It will be nice to have oak in the kitchen to match the rest of the house.
